Our history

The Media’s Big Food Drive is unique in Quebec. Each year as the Holiday Season approaches, members of the media join forces to help thousands of people in need. Along with an army of volunteers, they become the personification of “mobilization” and “solidarity.”

December 13, 2001

The first Grande guignolée is held, with late actress Rita Lafontaine its first spokesperson. Deployed in the Greater Montreal region only, the event brings together 16 media outlets.

2002

Inspired by the success of the Montreal event, four more regions join the effort: Quebec City, Saguenay, Gatineau and Trois-Rivières.

2003

For the first time, over $1 million is raised and tons of non-perishable food items are donated.

Since 2006

The drive has been held across Quebec!

2015

The drive passes another milestone: $3 million is raised.
